Will surgeon Sergio Canavero be the first to transplant a patient’s head on another body? Canavero claimed that he could, and it would him no more than one hour! The full joining process would take up to 24 hours, with a team of surgeons, to allow for rotation and rest periods. Canavero says that he has been contacted by doctors wishing to participate in this revolutionary medical endeavor.
Canavero has a patient lined up for the first operation: Valeri Spiridonov, a 30 year old Russian man challenged with Werdnig – Hoffman’s disease, that wastes away muscles. He suffers from rapidly declining health.
Not all medical experts support this endeavor. Some even say that if operated on, Spiridonov may suffer a fate worse than death.
The cost of the surgery is a mere $15 million dollars. The doctor says that $15 million is the price for health and happiness for many people. Football players earn more than that for kicking around a ball.
Canavero plans to perform the world’s first head transplant in two years.
