Donald Trump, Republican Presidential candidate, will not pull out of the campaign after his insulting remark about Arizona’s Senator John McCain. He made the remark at a campaign meeting in Iowa. Trump said that McCain is a war hero only because he was captured. Trump added that he left the room to a standing ovation. “It was wonderful to see, nobody was insulted,” said Trump.
Donald Trump’s highly insensitive remark followed John McCain commenting that Trump was firing up “crazies.” Senator McCain was captured by the North Vietnamese and was a prisoner of war for five years, tortured and beaten by his captors. Trump was interviewed by ABC’s Martha Raddatz, who inquired if McCain’s capture describes a hero.
Trump repeated what his campaign said after the Saturday meeting – that he was dissappointed in the senator because of the US’s treatment of veterans.
Trump was called out by both the GOP and Hillary Clinton for his comment, this being the second time that Trump has reverted to name-calling and verbal attacks. When asked if he would continue this pattern of attack on Twitter and elsewhere he replied that he only answers back.
