About 150 Ethiopian citizens staged a protest yesterday (Wednesday), claiming institutionalized discrimination. The unauthorized anti-racism protest was milder than previous demonstrations, with seven demonstrators arrested.
The protest took place at the Azraeli Junction and police reported that although they were prepared to deal with violence there were no injuries on either side. The scuffle with police broke out, curiously, close to the news broadcast hour.
The demonstrators protested and chanted “violent police should be jailed,” alluding to the police officer who allegedly struck an Ethiopian protestor at the last demonstration. The protestors claim that PM Binyamin Netanyahu and Police Commissioner Yochanan Danino promised that the officer would be brought to court within a month, but so far the promise hasn’t been realized.
